The Best Sushi in Alexandria

Momo’s Sushi
212 Queen Street, Alexandria, VA 22314
Allison loves Momo’s for takeout sushi (also available on Doordash) and highly recommends the white house roll and the chef’s salad with sashimi and seaweed (and the mochi for dessert!) Momo’s has been an Old Town favorite for sushi since 2004. Owners Han and Yeon Son can be seen both behind the sushi counter and greeting customers. Momo’s is open seven days a week. Check out its menu here which also includes sashimi, udon, bowls, and yakisoba.

The Sushi Bar
2312 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22301
The Sushi Bar is the perfect date night destination for sushi lovers. Located in Del Ray, this hip, adults-only Japanese restaurant’s sushi and sashimi offerings are served on small “tapas-style” plates to encourage sampling and sharing. Alison loves the Del Ray Roll (spicy tuna and avocado topped with seared tuna and jalapeno, spicy mayo, eel sauce, and tempura bits) and the miso soup topped with crab meat. The appetizers are fabulous and include a baby octopus salad, a pickled cucumber salad, and edamame. Note that The Sushi Bar is only open for dinner and does not take reservations. Takeout is available.

Kaizen Tavern
1909 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22301
Kaizen Tavern is a Del Ray favorite, known for its Asian fusion cuisine. We love Kaizen’s happy hour, where you can get traditional Japanese sake. Be sure to try the Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll and the Kaizen Tataki, made with yellowtail, avocado, ponsu, jalapeno, shiso, and onion. Kaizen is open seven days a week and also serves a weekend brunch. Diners can enjoy its lovely outdoor patio in the warmer months.

Zento
693 N. Washington Street, Alexandria, VA 22314
This popular restaurant in the heart of Old Town offers a tremendous variety of sushi, including several vegetarian versions. Try one of its Sushi Bowls, served with miso soup and a house salad. Soup lovers will enjoy Zento’s many options for either Udon or Miso soup (from tofu to pork). Zento is open for lunch and dinner every day and offers daily Happy Hour from 5 – 7 p.m.

Ichiban Sushi House
211 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314
Check out Ichiban’s signature rolls like the Three Dynasty with deep-fried spicy tuna, yellowtail, salmon, cucumber, scallion, avocado, and mixed tobiko or the Old Town with Shrimp tempura, avocado roll topped with unagi and avocado. Ichiban offers easy online ordering for both pickup and delivery as well as catering services.

Yamazato
6303 Little River Turnpike #120, Alexandria, VA 22312
This restaurant tucked away in Alexandria’s West End has been rated DC’s #1 place for sushi by Zagat! Yamazato has a generous offering of both raw and cooked sushi, plus a full dinner menu including some Thai dishes like Pad See Eaw, Korean bulgogi, and curries. Yamazato is open six days a week for both lunch and dinner and Sundays for dinner only. Reservations are available for a party of six or more.
