Allison Goodhart DuShuttle is COO and co-lead agent of The Goodhart Group at Compass, a top-producing real estate team serving buyers and sellers throughout Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland, with more than $2 billion in real estate sales. A DMV native who has lived throughout the region, Allison brings deep local knowledge and a strategic, highly personal approach to helping clients make their next move.

Allison’s favorite part of real estate is figuring out the strategy. She believes the best real estate advice starts with understanding what a client is actually trying to accomplish—not just in a transaction, but in the next chapter of their life. And the answer is rarely exactly the same for two people.

For buyers, that might mean helping a first-time buyer understand where to start, figuring out the timing and financial puzzle of a move-up or downsizing, welcoming someone relocating to the DMV, or getting creative when the right house simply isn’t on the market. Allison particularly loves the hunt and has developed a multi-step strategy for uncovering off-market opportunities through The Goodhart Group’s relationships, database, agent network, and direct outreach.

For sellers, Allison loves looking at a property with fresh eyes: determining how it can show its best, identifying the likely buyer, and creating the positioning and marketing strategy around the seller’s individual goals. That may mean maximizing their net, selling quickly, maintaining privacy, minimizing disruption—or finding the right balance among all four. Allison remains closely involved in the strategy, marketing, positioning and negotiation from beginning to end.

Clients also benefit from the full strength of The Goodhart Group. Allison and her mother and business partner, Sue Goodhart, have intentionally built a true team of experienced specialists who work together around the client rather than a collection of agents operating independently under one name. It allows clients to have a deeply personal relationship with their agent while also having the experience, resources, and support of an entire team behind them.

Allison has worked full-time in real estate since 2008, though her start came much earlier: she earned her real estate license at 18 and spent a college summer working for real estate entrepreneur Barbara Corcoran in New York. She was later named to REALTOR® Magazine’s “30 Under 30” and Alexandria’s “40 Under 40,” and has appeared as a real estate expert on CNN, CBS Mornings and other national and local media.

Alexandria is where Allison’s story began and where she is now raising her own family, but she has also called Arlington and several parts of Washington, DC home. That firsthand experience across the region is part of why she loves helping clients explore the DMV and find not just the right house, but the community and lifestyle that fit them.

When she isn’t working, Allison is most likely with her husband Doug and their two boys, on the sidelines of one of their many sporting events, cheering on a DC sports team, trying a new restaurant, or spending time at their family home in Bethany Beach. An avid traveler and foodie, Allison loves experiencing new places through their food, neighborhoods, architecture, and culture—and noticing how all of those things shape the way people live. Travel is also a constant source of inspiration for her work, whether it sparks a new way to position a home, market a property, tell the story of a neighborhood or simply think differently about what makes a place feel special. She is usually collecting ideas for work while already plotting the family’s next adventure.

After recently completing treatment for breast cancer diagnosed at 40, Allison became an advocate for early detection, access to screening, and continued research. Her experience also inspired The Goodhart Group’s Healthy Home initiative, focused on practical ways to make thoughtful, healthier choices at home.

Because for Allison, it’s never just about the house. It’s about the life you build inside it and the community you help shape around it.
