The Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Alexandria

Having kids doesn’t mean you’re destined to eat in Chuck E Cheese and McDonalds until they go off to college! We’re fortunate to live in Alexandria, home to several fabulous restaurants that are incredibly family-friendly and accommodating to babies and children. So read on for our round-up of the best kid-friendly restaurants in Alexandria.

IN OLD TOWN

 

Fontaine Bistro
119 S. Royal Street, Alexandria, VA 22314
This Old Town gem is best known for its amazing variety of sweet and savory crêpes (and other French favorites). While this tiny restaurant is not stroller-friendly (leave the stroller at home), it is incredibly kid-friendly. Its Kinder Crepes menu includes crepe varieties made with banana and chocolate sauce, peanut butter and strawberry jam, and ham and cheese. Is your child gluten-free? No worries, Gluten-free, organic buckwheat flour crepes are available. Insider tip: visit on Wednesdays for half-price bottles of wine (with entree purchase). Fontaine opens at 10 am daily for breakfast (M-F) and 9 am for brunch on the weekends.

Chadwicks
203 The Strand, Alexandria, VA 22314
Chadwicks is a local favorite for any kid-friendly meal. The staff generously seats families at larger tables to accommodate high chairs and strollers (and they’re genuinely ok with crumbs and messes!). Chadwicks has a good, appropriately-priced, kids menu. Insider tip: Stop by on Monday for half-priced burgers all day. Brunch is served on weekends from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm

Momo Sushi

212 Queen Street, Alexandria, VA 22314
Owned and operated by a friendly husband and wife team, Han and Yeon Son, Momo Sushi is a warm and welcoming spot for families. You’ll enjoy amazing sushi, bowls, sashimi, and noodle dishes served by an extremely attentive wait staff. While Momo is not great for strollers, you will find great lunch specials!

Mason Social 

728 N. Henry Street Alexandria, VA 22314
Mason Social is in a super-walkable location in Old Town plus has a nice outdoor seating perfect for social distancing and strollers! They also have a great kids menu with a variety of options for a variety of appetites, plus great cocktails and apps for the adults.

ELSEWHERE IN ALEXANDRIA

Port City Brewing

3950 Wheeler Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22304
This local brewery is surprisingly kid-friendly! It has a section with picnic tables in the brewing area so the kids have room to roam. Stop by for one of Port City’s award-winning brews and food truck fare. Port City also offers lots of fun events for an outing without the kids — tastings and tours, trivia nights, events such as BEERYOGA, and pub crawls!

The Haven

1401 Belle Haven Road, Alexandria, VA 22307
This locally owned restaurant (a sister to Del Ray Pizza) is truly dedicated to outstanding service and offering the freshest ingredients in its pizza, salads, pasta, and sandwiches. Its onsite 1,000 square foot garden provides over 60% of its salad greens and the produce used in most specials. Kids will love seeing the garden up close and sitting on the outside patio. The staff is quite accommodating of allergies and dietary restrictions. Adults will enjoy its selection of local craft brews and three TVs in the bar area to watch the game. From March to September (sometimes longer, weather permitting), stop by the Custard Shack next door to complete your meal! The Haven is also open for weekend brunch from 11 am – 3 pm.

Red Rocks Pizza

904 King St, Alexandria, VA 22314
The family will love this neopolitan style pizza. Brunch is served 10:30 am – 3 pm on weekends.  Stroller friendly.

Los Tios Grill

2615 Mount Vernon Avenue Alexandria, VA 22301 (plus locations in Alexandria City, Crystal City, and Leesburg)
The kids will love the amazing Tex-Mex and Salvadorean food, outdoor dining, and friendly staff at this Del Ray establishment. Los Tios offers fantastic weekday lunch specials from 11 am to 3 pm plus brunch on weekends from 11 am to 2 pm.

Taqueria Poblano

2400-B Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22301
Using fresh local ingredients, Taqueria Pablano serves up Mexican and L.A.-style cuisine such as Fish Tacos, Duck Carnitas, and Tacos al Pastor. Taqueria’s margaritas have been voted the best in the DC area by Washington City Paper for four years! For the kids, you’ll enjoy dining the outside patio and the super cheap kids’ menu (everything’s just $4.50!) which features a mini bean and cheese burrito, chicken taquitos, and a cheese quesadilla. Note: Taqueria is closed on Tuesdays.

Grounded also proudly serves organic, fair-trade coffee and an amazing selection of tarts, smoothies, soups, salads, quiches, and European-style desserts.

Bread and Water

This casual spot is perfect to bring the kids for a quick coffee, breakfast, or lunch. There is plenty of room for strollers and kids will love its pastries, breads, and desserts. Bread and Water also serves fantastic savory options as well, including soups, stews, chili, eggs, and salads.
