New Restaurants in Alexandria – Summer 2022

We are so excited about some of the latest restaurant openings (and soon-to-be openings) in town! Some local favorites are reopening or expanding, and some national brands are coming to town. Read on below for a list of new and newly re-opened restaurants in Alexandria.

Vermilion
1120 King Street

Vermillion recently reopened on July 19th after being closed for two years during the pandemic. Located in Old Town, Vermillion offers refreshingly local, seasonal bites with locally grown ingredients. Vermillion will offer dinner service with Friday lunch and weekend brunch, making its return soon. We couldn’t be more excited that this old favorite is back!

Frank Pepe Pizzaria Napoletana
3233 Duke Street 

Also known as “Pepe’s Pizza,” this iconic New Haven-born pizzeria has made its way to Alexandria and officially opened on July 18. If you haven’t tried New-Haven-style pizza, you’ll want to give Frank Pepe’s a shot as it’s been in business in Connecticut since 1925! You can find Frank Pepe’s in the Alexandria Commons Shopping Center on Duke Street. They currently offer dine-in, carryout, and delivery. 

Thompson Italian
1024 King Street

Thompson Italian is planning to open its second location in Northern Virginia on King Street in the former location of Hank’s Oyster Bar. Thompson Italian opened its first location in Falls Church in 2019 and offers simple Italian dishes as well as take and bake meals to make at home.

1799 Prime
110 S. Pitt Street

1799 Prime has officially moved into the former Restaurant Eve space on Pitt Street, opening on August 3rd. 1799 Prime serves carefully crafted cocktails, prime steak, fresh seafood, and a little something for every palate and preference. The Peacock Lounge will be where patrons can find happy hour Monday through Friday, from 3 pm – 6 pm. You’ll also want to check out the large patio that features an outdoor bar, tables, and string lights. It’s also the only restaurant patio in Old Town not visible from the street.  

Magnolia
703 King Street 

The former Magnolia’s on King will be opening soon as Magnolia. The new name will also include a new menu and concept for the popular King Street location. Stay tuned for more information about the new menu and the re-opening plans. 

Indochen
1625 King Street

The popular Indian-Chinese restaurant recently opened its second Alexandria location in the Hyatt-Centric Old Town. Indochen serves popular Chinese and Indian dishes as well as American classics like burgers and crab cakes. 

Ted’s Bulletin
Carlyle Crossing 

The popular DMV eatery Ted’s Bulletin is in talks to open its seventh location in the new Caryle Crossing development near the new Wegmans. Ted’s Bulletin has classic American food like fried chicken and burgers, plus delicious all-day breakfast. The Carlyle location is expected to be similar to the Ballston location and have the partner Sidekick Bakery as well.  

 

 

Andy’s Pizza
107 N. Fayette Street 

Andy’s Pizza will soon be opening its second location in Virginia. Andy’s was in the news last year for winning the top prize for New York-style pizza in the international pizza challenge. Andy’s keeps it casual and serves classic and crispy 18” NY-style pizza by the slice or whole pie. Stay tuned for the upcoming opening date. 

Chewish Deli
1640 King Street

Chewish Deli recently officially opened its second Old Town location. After a successful run at their location on Pendleton Street, the King Street location replaces a recently closed Dunkin Donuts. Chewish Deli specializes in New York-style bagels as well as coffee and deli sandwiches.

Jollibee
4809 Beauregard Street

Jollibee is a Filipino fast food restaurant that recently opened its second Virginia location in late June in Lincolnia at the Plaza at the Landmark shopping center. Known for its Chickenjoy, a fried chicken cooked to be crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The chicken can be paired with sides like fries, mashed potatoes, and rice. Chicken is also available as a chicken sandwich, or diners can opt for the spicy Chickenjoy and chicken sandwich varieties. Jollibee offers both dine-in and takeout.

Cocolita
3802 Mount Vernon Avenue

Cocolita opened its doors in Del Ray in June. They offer a  variety of freshly made Mexican food, from pork carnitas and chicken tinga to beans and rice to guacamole, tostadas, chocolate, and Marina fruit tisane tea. They also offer delicious plant-based meals as well.
