Rent Cafe, a website dedicated to real estate rental searches, has released its top trending zip codes for millennials (those aged 22-36). Rankings were based on the increase in millennial population over five years, their population share, and the overall number of renters in the millennial age group.
Old Town Alexandria (22314) ranked second among Virginia’s trending millennial zip codes. Old Town experienced a 26.5 percent increase in the millennial population over five years. 22314 is second only to downtown Richmond’s 23230 zip code, which saw a 43 percent surge. Other Alexandria zip codes populate spots #4 – #9 in the Virginia top ten (22303, 22315, 22306, 22310, 22302, and 22305).
Overall, these results indicate that millennials are flocking to urban areas with plentiful job opportunities.Two Los Angeles-area zip codes took the top national spots. One Washington, DC area zip code, DC’s Southwest waterfront, reached the national top ten list.

Alexandria is a major hub for millennials!We’ve seen an increase in rental apartment inventory in our area to accommodate the influx, but many millennials are now buying. The mid-point of the millennial age bracket is 29 years old, which also is about the time we see many in our area getting married and starting families.
