In honor of Book Lovers Day, be sure to check out one of The Goodhart Group’s favorite bookstores in Alexandria.

Hooray for Books!
1555 King Street

Hooray for Books! is a locally owned, independent bookstore in Old Town. Open since 2008, Hooray for Books! Is a favorite gathering spot, offering programs for both adults and children, including book clubs, author events, and storytimes. The shop also sponsors five monthly ARC clubs for readers ages 6-18, who write book reviews for the shop. Check out the calendar events here.

The shop is open daily from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (Sundays until 4 p.m.) or shop online here. 

Old Town Books
130 S. Royal Street 

Old Town Books is a general-interest book store in the heart of Old Town. Old Town Books is “passionate about building bookish community” and invites locals to join its author events or one of its book clubs (including True Story, Sci-Fi and Fantasy, Bad Romance, and Murder by the Book clubs). The shop is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Harambee
1132 Prince Street

Harambee bookstore carries a deep culturally related inventory of black literature, including small press and independently published works. It offers a core selection of African literature and artwork, from ancient civilization to modern society. Harambee also has a wonderful selection in categories such as Brothers and Sisters, Race & Culture, Street Life, and Autobiography. Shop online here. The shop is open from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday and  2 – 5 p.m. on Sundays (closed on Mondays)

Sacred Circle
919 King Street

Sacred Circle offers a comprehensive selection of spiritual and metaphysical books, as well as CDs, sacred, magickal, and ritual objects. All of its merchandise is vegan/cruelty-free (no products of animal origin) and fair trade whenever possible. Sacred Circle also carries books on health and healing, self-help, psychology, nature, pets, children, as well as a selection of fiction and poetry. Store hours are Wednesdays – Saturdays from 12 – 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 – 5 p.m.
