I was SO excited to see this news! If you’ve never taken the Baseball Boat from Old Town Alexandria to Nationals Park—you’re in for a treat. And if you’re like me, and have been seriously missing it since it stopped running back in 2019, you’ll be thrilled to hear: it’s finally back!
As a longtime Nationals fan and Alexandria resident, this has always been one of my favorite ways to get to a game. There’s just something magical about hopping on a boat at the Alexandria waterfront and cruising up the Potomac to catch a ballgame. No traffic, no Metro lines, no stress—just fresh air, city views, and excited fans.
A Welcome Return After Six Years
The Baseball Boat (officially the Navy Yard loop from City Cruises, but let’s be honest—everyone calls it the Baseball Boat) has been on a six-year hiatus. Now, for the 2025 season, it’s back in action, offering round-trip service from Old Town straight to Nationals Park on every home game day. It also runs for DC United home games as well at Audi Field!
This is such a fun and unique experience, whether you’re bringing your kids or friends or making it a date night. It elevates game day into an adventure and an experience.
Here’s How It Works
- Departs from: Old Town Alexandria Marina
- Arrives at: Diamond Teague Park, right at Nationals Park (back of the stadium)
- When it runs: Every home game in the 2025 season
- Departure time: About 90 minutes before the first pitch. The boat takes about 40 minutes, so it’s not the most express route!
- Return trip: Leaves 20 minutes after the game ends (this is the only downside IMO, rushing to make the boat after the game)
- Tickets: $30 round trip (totally worth it!)
- Buy in advance: Definitely get tickets early—they can sell out quickly! Book here on City Cruises.

What’s On Board?
The ride itself is half the fun. There’s plenty of seating, great views of the city, and a few snacks and drinks available for purchase on board. Who doesn’t love tailgating on the water? It’s super kid-friendly and makes the whole day feel like an event. My boys love being on the water and we regularly take other water ferry routes from Old Town to dinners in Georgetown, The Wharf and National Harbor. We are so glad the Navy Yard loop is back!
Why We Love the Baseball Boat
- No traffic, Metro or parking stress. Seriously—this alone makes it worth it.
- It’s scenic and relaxing. You see the monuments, the bridges, and get a totally different view of DC.
- It’s memorable. Monument views by water on the way to a baseball game? Enough said!
- You’re dropped off steps from the stadium. It could not be easier.
Some of my tips!
- Arrive at least 30 minutes early—boarding starts well before departure.
- Check the weather and bring a light jacket or sunscreen, depending on the day.
- Make it part of the fun—grab lunch, happy hour or ice cream in Old Town before heading out.
- Don’t forget your Nats gear and maybe a few snacks if you’re bringing the kids!
Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just looking for a new way to enjoy a day at the ballpark, the Baseball Boat is such a fun and easy way to go. I’m so glad it’s back—and if you see me and my boys on board this season, be sure to say hi!
