I’ve spent more than four decades building businesses, serving clients, and being part of the Alexandria community—and more than 30 of those years helping people buy and sell homes.

I began my career as an Alexandria business owner in 1981, when my husband, Marty, and I became co-owners of The Wicker Shoppe, a family-owned retail business in Old Town. We operated the shop through 1994, and those years taught me lessons about entrepreneurship, customer service, relationships, and community that still shape how I do business today.

I entered real estate in 1992 and today serve as CEO and co-owner of The Goodhart Group, which I own with Marty and our daughter, Allison. In 2018, the three of us became founding members of Compass’s Alexandria office.

Don’t be fooled by the title! I am hands-on with all my clients and have a strong administrative team to make sure every detail is attended to.

Don’t let the CEO title fool you—I am still very hands-on with my clients. I love figuring out what a seller’s home needs to be at its best, developing a strategy to bring it to market, solving the inevitable problems along the way, and helping clients make good decisions without feeling overwhelmed. After more than three decades, no two clients or transactions are exactly alike, and that’s one of the things I still love about real estate.

My connection to Alexandria goes far beyond the homes I’ve sold here. I’ve watched the city grow and change as a business owner, real estate professional, resident, volunteer, and civic leader. I also served as president of the Seminary Ridge Civic Association, an experience that gave me another perspective on the issues that matter to Alexandria’s neighborhoods and the people who call them home.

Giving back has always been an important part of my life. I served on the Board of Trustees of St. Coletta of Greater Washington from 2009–2023, first as Vice Chair and later as President of the Board. I served on The Campagna Center Board of Directors from 2016–2022, where I also chaired the Development Committee, and have held leadership roles with the Choral Arts Society of Washington and The Fund for Alexandria’s Child.

Today, I serve on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce as Chair of Development. I have been nominated to serve as Chair-Elect in 2027 and Chair in 2028—an opportunity that is particularly meaningful after spending so much of my professional life as an Alexandria small-business owner.

Our family and team have been fortunate to receive many professional honors, but community recognition is especially meaningful to me. The Goodhart Group was named the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce’s 2019 Overall Business of the Year and has been recognized for small-business philanthropy. I have also received The Campagna Center’s Golden Halo Award and, together with Allison, Senior Services of Alexandria’s Generation to Generation Award.

I earned a Master of City and Regional Planning from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts from Dickinson College. My background in planning continues to shape how I think about housing, neighborhoods, development, and what makes communities thrive.

After all these years, what matters most to me hasn’t really changed. I believe in listening, working hard, solving problems, caring for people, and building relationships that last well beyond a real estate transaction.

That’s what we’ve built The Goodhart Group around—and it’s still what gets me excited about coming to work every day.

Outside Of Real Estate 

I enjoy spending time with my husband Marty and our daughters Allison and Amanda, their husbands Doug and Ben, and our grandsons Brooks, Wesley, Chase, Hank, and Lainey.
