November Events Happening in Alexandria

This November, start the holiday season off right with some fun and festive holiday events. From the annual City of Alexandria Tree Lighting, to cocktail classes and cookie decorating, as well as the 47th Annual Turkey Trot and Small Business Saturday these events are sure to get you into the holiday spirit. Below is a list of events we’re looking forward to throughout Alexandria and the DC area.

Annual City of Alexandria Tree Lighting                                                                                                                      Nov. 19, 6 pm – 7 pm                                                                                                                                  300 King Street, Old Town

Ring in the city’s official start to the holiday season with the lighting of a 40-foot tree adorned with nearly 40,000 twinkling lights! You’ll also enjoy appearances from Alexandria’s Town Crier and you may just spot Santa himself. Visit the event website here for more info.

 

Holiday Cocktail Class at Lena’s Wood-Fired Pizza and Tap                                                                                Nov. 7 – Dec. 13, 6 pm – 8 pm
401 East Braddock Road, Del Ray 

At this interactive cocktail class, patrons will be welcomed with a starter cocktail and then taught how to make three special holiday cocktails while learning the story behind each cocktail. Art Fest at Torpedo Factory Art Center                                                                                                                      Nov. 12 – 13, 12 pm – 4 pm                                                                                                                          105 North Union Street, Old Town

Holiday Pottery Sale                                                                                                                                                      Nov. 12, 10 am – 4 pm

Shop for your holiday gifts at the Alexandria Clay Coop, displaying the work of more than 30 members. Meet the local artists who make and sell beautiful pottery, and then stop by their next door neighbors, the Happy Cat Hotel & Spa, the Local Motion Project, and America’s Favorite Popcorn. Ice and Lights – The Winter Village at Cameron Run                                                                                          Nov. 18 – Jan. 1, 5 pm – 10 pm                                                                                                                          4001 Eisenhower Avenue, Cameron Run

Enjoy ice skating while surrounded by a winter wonderland at Cameron Run Regional Park. Ice and Lights offers a fun, outdoor family experience, perfect for snapping family pictures with a variety of displays. Tickets are available for the Village Only or Village and Ice Skating evenings November 18 – January 1. Daytime ice skating is available weekends and holidays in January and February. Prices range $8-20 per person depending on activity and date. Capacity is limited; reservations are required to ensure access on a specific date. “Here for the Pie” Cookie Decorating Workshop                                                                                                  Nov. 19, 3 pm – 4:30 pm                                                                                                                                  1212 King Street, Old Town

This interactive two hour workshop lead by guest instructor and local Alexandria Cookie Artisan, Desiray of Orbiting Cookie Company includes a set of 6 Themed Cookies with which you’ll learn how to use piping inconsistencies to add texture, the skill of brushing and layering icing, how to add dimension through timed flooding, applying sprinkles, piping details and edible painting, and tips and tricks to achieving a perfectly baked sugar cookie. You’ll get to take home a custom scribe and will walk away with Desiray’s no-fail white velvet sugar recipe, your decorated cookies, and “cookier” tips and tricks. 47th Annual Turkey Trot

Earn your Thanksgiving dinner this year by signing up for Del Ray’s favorite Thanksgiving morning tradition, the Alexandria Turkey Trot. Tour Mount Vernon by Candlelight                                                                                                                                Nov. 25 – Dec. 18, 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm                                                                                                        3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon 

Take a candlelit guided tour of George Washington’s estate while learning about holiday traditions in 18th-century Virginia. Hear stories of Christmases’ past and the build-up to the American Revolution as you visit the slave quarters, outbuildings, and Washington’s Mansion, then enjoy a reception with live music, cider, and cookies. Small Business Saturday
Old Town                                                                                                                                                  Nov. 26

Celebrate Small Business Saturday in the D.C. region’s Shop Small headquarters, with offerings from dozens of independently owned boutiques in Old Town Alexandria and beyond. Del Ray Shop Small Crawl

Shop small and shop sooner this holiday season. To celebrate Small Business Saturday, the shops of Del Ray will join in on the Old Town tradition and host a Shop Small Crawl on November 26, featuring special promotions, giveaways and other holiday surprises. Holiday Makers Market at Port City Brewing Company                                                                                        Nov. 26, 1 pm – 5 pm                                                                                                                                    3950 Wheeler Avenue, Port City Brewery

Shop for holiday gifts as you enjoy a pint or two at Port City Brewing Company. More than two dozen Alexandria-based makers, artists, and creators will pop-up at Port City offering handmade goods and cozy holiday items. Local food trucks will be on site for the event.
