Rosslyn is a bustling and active community that is home to many business and retail establishments. Rosslyn’s prime location as the first neighborhood in Virginia once you cross the Key Bridge, and access to both DC and to Metro’s Orange/Silver lines, attract many convenience-seeking residents. It is within walking distance to Georgetown (located just across the Potomac River) and offers various transportation options including Metro, major highways, and bike / pedestrian paths. Rosslyn is home to the Iwo Jima United States Marine Corps War Memorial, Netherlands Carillon, and Freedom Park.
Rosslyn has played an integral role in Virginia history for nearly 400 years. Since the completion of the Aqueduct Bridge in 1843, Rosslyn has acted as the unofficial gateway to Arlington and the state. Rosslyn also served as a colonial ferry landing and Civil War military encampment. From the late 1800s through 1941, Rosslyn was a commuter hub for electric rail service. The Civil Rights era helped spur Rosslyn’s growth, as business and government agencies sought office space close to DC that was perceived to be safe from rioting.
