Alcova Heights History

Alcova stands for Alexandria County, Virginia and was named by J. Cloyd Byars. During the Civil War Union soldiers occupied Alcova. Many buildings were burned and destroyed. Byars’ home, also named Alcovia, is now a historical landmark in the area.

Most homes in Alcova were built between 1921 and 1950.

Alcova Heights Park is located in Alcova and Arlington Hall West Park, Arlington Heights Park, and Doctors Branch Park are all nearby. Locals can picnic in Alcova Heights Park under one of their picnic shelters. The Arlington Cinema Drafthouse is located right outside Alcova where cocktails are served during movie showings.

Sugar Shack is a neighborhood favorite when it comes to fresh donuts and coffee. For pizza, sandwiches, and pasta stop by Lost Dog Cafe. Tortas Y Tacos La Chiquita has flavor packed tacos and quesadillas.
