If you’re planning a trip to Nationals Park, you may have heard about the “Baseball Boat”—a water taxi that runs from Old Town Alexandria to the stadium. It’s easily one of the most unique ways to get to a game, and for many, it turns game day into an experience.
We’ve been getting a lot of questions about whether it’s running this season, so here’s what you need to know.
What to Know for This Season
The Baseball Boat, operated by City Cruises, has returned in recent seasons and typically runs as part of the Navy Yard water taxi route on select game days.
However, service is seasonal and not guaranteed for every game or every year, so it’s important to confirm availability before planning around it.

What the Experience Is Like
If it is running when you go, it’s absolutely worth considering:
- Depart from Old Town Alexandria waterfront
- Arrive steps from the stadium at Diamond Teague Dock
- Enjoy a scenic ride along the Potomac River
- Skip traffic and crowded Metro lines
It’s a relaxed, fun way to start the game—especially if you’re entertaining guests or new to the area.
Other Easy Ways to Get to Nationals Park
Even if the boat isn’t running, getting to the stadium is very easy:
- Metro (Green Line – Navy Yard/Ballpark) – the most convenient option
- Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) – simple and widely available
- Parking near Nationals Park – garages and lots nearby
- Spend time before the game in The Yards / Navy Yard for restaurants, waterfront views, and pre-game energy

Our Take
We love the Baseball Boat and always recommend it when it’s running—it’s one of those “only in DC” experiences.
That said, it’s best to think of it as a bonus option rather than something to rely on without confirming ahead of time.
