Named for its location North of Massachusetts Avenue, NoMa is an emerging neighborhood with modern developments rising from old industrial lots. It is bound by Union Station and Q and R Streets, NE. The neighborhood is serviced by two Metro stations on the Red Line: NoMa-Gallaudet U and Union Station. NoMas’s public transit and close proximity to downtown are highly attractive to residents.

NoMa primarily consists of glass and steel residential and office high rise buildings. There are some older rowhouses here as well.

The neighborhood was home to the Uline Arena (now an REI), the site of the Beatles’ first concert. At NoMa’s southern end, beaux-arts Union Station houses a shopping arcade and over 30 eateries. On the area’s eastern fringes, the vendors at the hip Union Market sell everything from artisan cheese and Korean tacos to home decor. Union Market also has an adjacent distillery and pop-up indie movie theater. The community houses the “Nerds in NoMa” speaker series, a monthly panel discussing everything from the arts in DC to locally brewed beers. Yogis and fitness enthusiasts can check out Yoga District.
