Eckington is a quiet yet still urban and happening neighborhood in the Northeast quadrant of DC. It is situated between Rhode Island and Florida Avenue, NE. It is walkable to the Rhode Island Ave-Brentwood Metro stop on Metro’s Red line.

Eckington History

Eckington is named for the 18th-century country estate that preceded today’s neighborhood. Its residential subdivision was platted in 1887 and developed by real estate entrepreneur George Truesdell. By 1890, Truesdell’s subdivision of Eckington was already being hailed by the local press as “Beautiful Eckington.” Truesdell himself was compared to Baron Haussman, the famous 19th century Parisian city planner.

The Eckington Civic Association is an active voice for the neighborhood. The Metropolitan Branch Trail, is perfect for walking, running, and biking. The Harry L. Thomas Recreation Center offers grassy fields, a pool, playground and park.
