Reston, known as the country’s first modern post-war planned community, is conveniently located near Tysons Corner, the Capital Beltway, and Dulles International Airport. It is convenient to both Leesburg Pike and the Fairfax County Parkway.

Reston History

Reston was founded as Virginia’s first planned residential community in the mid-1960s. Reston is named for its founder Robert E. Simon (RES). Simon used the proceeds from his family’s sale of Carnegie Hall to bring his vision to life in Reston. Architect and planner James Roassant designed the community.

Reston Community

Reston’s park-like 300 acres of open space are well-maintained throughout the community. A wide variety of facilities and programs offer year-round opportunities for fitness, fun, and exploration. More than 700 acres of forest, 50 meadows, and four wetlands provide scenic vistas as well as habitat for local wildlife.

Fifteen community pools and 48 community tennis courts are located within Reston. Groups and teams practice and compete on its many ball fields and multipurpose courts. Playgrounds, garden plots, picnic facilities, and community buildings are popular places for Reston residents to gather.

Reston Favorites

Reston Town Center offers dozens of great restaurants and shops as well as a movie theater. With year-round events, such as road races, art exhibits and holiday festivities, it is the place for locals to gather. The Reston Community Players, has a 50+ year history and puts on four shows a year. Boaters and fishermen will enjoy Reston’s four lakes, three ponds, and 20 miles of streams. Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate 55 miles of pathways and trails that connect Reston’s amenities.

Visit any of the Reston Town Center’s 36 fabulous dining establishments. Truly, it boasts a restaurant for every palette and budget: Obi Sushi, Morton’s Steakhouse, Mon Ami Gabi (French), Vapiano (Italian), plus National chains like Panera, Sweetgreen, and Starbucks.
