Nestled between Pentagon City and Bailey’s Crossroads, Columbia Pike is a major residential hub in South Arlington. Often referred to as “The Pike,” this neighborhood stretches from the Pentagon to Bailey’s Crossroads. It is roughly bound by Washington Boulevard to the north, South Glebe Road to the south, and Route 50 and Interstate 395 to the west. The Columbia Pike area offers quick access to Interstate 395 and easy access to DC via Metro bus and Arlington Rapid Transit.

Columbia Pike History

The Columbia Pike area became a vibrant streetcar suburb in the early 1900s when a rail line connected the Rosslyn and Nauck neighborhoods. The stop at the intersection of Columbia Pike and Walter Reed Drive became the focal point of the area’s first commercial development. By the mid-1920s, Columbia Pike was a significant commercial hub. After World War II, additional shopping centers were built along Columbia Pike, primarily to serve its many new residential developments.

Columbia Pike is home to many beloved community events including a Fall Festival and a popular Blues Festival in June. Outdoor movie nights are held every Thursday and Sunday throughout the summer. The Columbia Pike Farmers Market takes place every Sunday morning.
