Football & The Fall Market

September 13, 2016 | Buying a Home | By: Allison

I love Fall.  The weather, the leaves, the holidays, the buzzing real estate market, and of course – FOOTBALL!  As a loyal, lifelong Washington Commanders fan, the beginning of fall always brings with it a feeling of hope and excitement for the season to come. This feeling is often crushed by mid-season (or in this case, after the first Monday Night Football game)…but, that’s neither here nor there.

Needless to say, my choice of profession doesn’t always align with being a good football fan, as my Sunday afternoons are almost always spent meeting and greeting buyers, friends, neighbors, and clients at open houses and showings. I’ve gotten very good at avoiding social media and news sites until I’ve gotten home for the day and settled on my couch – thank goodness for DVR!

So for my fellow avid football fans, take heart.

There is no reason you can’t buy or sell a home during football season (also known as the the fall market!) and enjoy the season to the fullest.

You can!

IF YOU’RE BUYING

When you’re buying, now is the time to get off the open house circuit and start working with an agent. Instead of spending your Sunday afternoons hitting open houses, we can schedule showings around your favorite team’s games, whether they are college games on Saturdays or NFL on Sundays.  We show property seven days a week, so can set a schedule that works for you.

IF YOU’RE SELLING

If you’re selling during football season, now is a good time to “stage” a room for watching games and entertaining. If you have a large TV in a rec room or theatre room, turn it on, put the game on mute, and set up the room like you’re ready to kick back and relax. Set the stage and give people a reason to stay longer!  You would be surprised by how many people hurry to an open house during halftime and end up lingering at the house longer when they see the game is on TV. If you’re concerned about traffic being lower at an open house, we often do Saturday opens as well or adjust the timing of an open to work for your schedule. Don’t want an open house on game day? That’s okay too.

THE BOTTOM LINE

The Fall Market is one of the best times to buy and sell. The weather is still nice, inventory is higher than it is during the summer and winter months, but it is not quite the feeding frenzy we see in the spring market.  If you’re thinking about buying or selling this fall, reach out! We’d be delighted to help.
